Powerlifting Diet: What it Actually Looks Like
|A powerlifting diet, or any diet for that matter, is exactly what you want it to look like. You should be eating whatever foods you want to eat, as long as you’re getting the right amounts of macro nutrients and calories. Although nutrition is important for powerlifters, it’s not nearly as important as a bodybuilders nutrition, unless you are at the top ranks of the sport.
As long as you’re getting enough protein and the right amount of calories for your goals, you don’t really have to worry about other things like carbs and fat.
Of course eating whatever you want can be unhealthy, so make sure you make it a habit to try to include as much whole foods as possible such as fruits, vegetables, oats, lentils, beans, etc.
Personally, I’m a not a big fan of the typical bodybuilder diet of chicken breast and rice. Yuck. That stuff got old after the first week. If you can eat like that, props to you. But if you can’t and you’re like me, eat what you want, just learn to count your calories.
Counting calories is especially easy if you regularly eat out at restaurants because most places post their nutrition facts online. No weighing out your food yayyy.
I think eating whatever kind of food you want is easier when you’re bulking or trying to gain weight, but it’s still very possible to take this approach when trying to shed fat as well.
But as you can see they both should be in a pretty normal range. I’m not eating weird foods with huge amounts of carbs or fats. Same with most people, which is why you shouldn’t really worry too much about counting those macro nutrients.
I know some of you are going to disagree with this statement but this approach works fine for me and for tons of other people, so if it ain’t broke, why try to fix it?
There are days where I’ll just go get a pizza and eat that and nothing else. Is that healthy? Of course not. But it’s loaded with carbs, fats, and protein. And it tastes amazing. I make sure I know how many calories I’m eating, and I don’t gain any weight, pretty cool right?
So the point I’m trying to get at is…eat WHATEVER you want within reason, always strive to eat healthy, get enough protein and calories.
